Please note that the #3000 stone may come with "hairline cracks". These cracks are normal and will not effect the performance or quality of the stone.

Soak the stone for about 20 minutes, or until the stone stops producing bubbles. And splash water on the stone as needed.

This stone has a good SOILD hard feel and comfortable feed back. It is not an ordinary stone but rather one that has many attributes that become evident when you get into using it. It leaves a hazy finish and after initial honing removes scratches from prior rougher stone. You can keep adjusting and tuning the edge and refining the shape to achieve a true flat even surface, I think it feels more like a natural stone than many ceramic stones do. It continues to remove hard and soft steel and sharpens without producing new scratches.

If we're going to agree your 4000 grit stone is 4000, then the 3000 is as I've said definitely around 2500. It will keep turning a burr if you stay on the stone. The 4000 will not. When freshly dressed it cut's like 2000-2500 but it's not very friable, meaning new particles don't keep coming up and the slurry on the stone just keeps getting finer and finer. After about 10min on the stone I would rate the 'polish' at about 6000. What's really pretty cool is perhaps I got into the 'meat' of the stone (continued dressing) and now..... I REALLY like it! It's very similar to the 2000 but a little harder, I went from 1000 to the 3000 and it got out all the scratches no problem, and set the blade up well for final finishing. It's a little hard so it holds the 1K geometry well.
