Soak the stone for about 20 minutes, or until the stone stops producing bubbles. And splash water on the stone as needed.

It is a medium grit stone for starter

It has nice nutural stone feeling to it

It cuts fast like 1200 grit stone, but its sharpening result is fine #1200 stone. The best quality stone among other #1200 stones

I just got my three new stones today and tried them out tonight. The 1200 is pretty good. It cuts faster than my shapton 1000, both the glass and pro mustard ones.The feedback is very different. A lot more tactile. The best thing is how it seems to get the edge sharp with less time and energy...and the scratch pattern is clearly finer. I felt that the chisel got a good cutting edge with less time and effort. .I put the chisels edge on the 4000 suzukiya middle stone I received and it polished a little better than my other middle stone...and with less clogging. The shapton 1000 leaves pretty deep scratches that require some hard work on a 2000 grit stone to remove...With the 1200 suzuki-ya. I could right up to a 4000 or 5000 stone and see a good polish. Next time I am going hone the tools on a 2000 however but it will go quickly. I finished up with my new 10000 polish stone. It is faster and leaves a nicer polish than the shapton 8000.
