Soak the stone for about 20 minutes, or until the stone stops producing bubbles. And splash water on the stone as needed.

Bought this stone to both refurbish old tools and to take out any nicks in a blade. I have to say this is one of he fastest sharpening materials I have ever used and that includes diamond plates!! I'm not a fan of the skidding feeling you get with a diamond plate. The feeling of this 400 stone is very tactile and suits the hard Japanese steels. Be careful though the steel disappears fast! The very attribute that makes this stone so fast at cutting is also it's only disadvantage....It wears quite quickly (as do most big grit stones). Regular dressing is required and if you do a lot of sharpening I would recommend buying 2x. It's a small negative for a very good stone though.
