• Wonderful saw!
  Cuts very quckly and with much less effort due to the large gullets, or "Window teeth", translation of "Madonoko". The large gaps help clear a larger amount of cut shavings out of the kerf avoiding clogging the cutting teeth, and the zig-zag teeth (that point forwards and back, not referring to the teeth "Set"), and small teeth score with a fairly thin kerf and cut with much less effort.
  The cut surface is surprisingly flat and smooth, and once the cut is started, it doesn't 'catch' like you would expect such a large gapped tooth saw to behave. Like many japanese tools, this saw is not a brute force, Charles Bronson tool, but requires a light touch, and is a product of the never ending quest by a "shokunin" or craftsman to strive to make his product better.
  
  The classic tempered blade with a central blush of with a light straw tint, and hand straightened with the telltale "Sen" peck-marks of hammering to tension the blade. I heard about this unique tooth patterned saw from reading Sebastian Gonzalez's Japanese saw sharpening blog and was curious, is it really that good? Well, I think so. Search Chomasaru Nagakatsu, and you'll find he's 82 years old, the Jiro dreams of sushi, but of saw fleams.
